About the Course

The excitement associated with North America’s shale gas boom is spreading around the world as different countries begin to see the tremendous potential for shale gas.

As exploration across the globe begins to determine the gas potential of shales, many countries are hoping that the exploitation of gas from local shales will reduce dependence on foreign gas imports.

With natural gas offering an energy source that offers reduced carbon dioxide emissions compared to coal, favourable gas prices in the future could push shale onto the scene as a game changer in most markets, offering an exciting step towards energy self sufficiency.

Despite all this potential, there are still critical challenges facing companies interested in capitalising on shale opportunities. Not only must they identify the extent to which shale gas production is viable, they must also consider the development of technology, the environmental constraints and the lowering of exploration and production costs.

This 2 day course will walk participants through the fundamentals of shale gas, using the North American experience as a bench mark. The course will show how shale gas, as an unconventional energy source, can play a major role in meeting global energy demand.

There will also be a discussion around the economic and environmental challenges in the exploitation shale gas. The 2 days will provide participants with a solid basis for identifying, evaluating and developing shale as a viable gas play.
